Western Sky Community Care Donates More Than 7,000 Meals for Children in Need during Holiday Season

Western Sky Community Care announced today it has donated $3,000 to the Jardin de los Niños Anti-Hunger and Wellness Program to provide more than 7,000 meals for children who are not in school during the Thanksgiving and winter breaks.

Research shows school meals are often the only food many children receive during the day and might not get to eat at all when schools close during the holidays.

“Jardin de los Niños provides vital preventative services to homeless and near-homeless children and their families. Our Anti-Hunger and Wellness Program prevents food insecurity to lessen the negative impacts that homelessness has on children’s ability to thrive and succeed,” said Dr. Michelle S. Adames, CEO of Jardin de los Niños. “We are extremely thankful for the funding from Western Sky Community Care, providing more than 7,000 meals to our families during the Thanksgiving and winter breaks.”

“Thousands of New Mexico’s children face hunger every day. Western Sky works to fight hunger on municipal, household, and individual levels as maintaining good nutrition in childhood sets the path to a healthy future,” said Dr. Susan Lewis, Western Sky Community Care’s Chief Medical Director.
