WSCC Announces Career Development Initiative

Date: 04/27/23

Career Development is a need in New Mexico and to help meet this need, Western Sky Community Care (WSCC) has series of trainings that can help improve both caregiver skill sets and good practices which may support better retention of a highly qualified workforce. Additionally, WSCC has made funding available to support personal care service agencies and their professional paid caregivers who complete some of these trainings.

Empirical research demonstrates career development assists with knowledge attainment and improved job satisfaction because employees can develop enhanced knowledge to better do their job.  Professional paid caregivers are one of the most important careers in NM as they support some of the most medically fragile in the state.  A career development path promotes employee skill sets for added job satisfaction and good patient outcomes. Some of the webinars offered by WSCC that supports this professional development includes Understanding the Basics of Dementia, Cultural Competency, and Behavior Management.  Some of these courses may be eligible for Continuing Education credit.

To support personal care service agencies’ ability to provide career development opportunities for their personal care workers, WSCC is offering a gift card to PCS agencies’ professional paid caregivers who complete a WSCC Long-Term Care (LTC) Training. Please see the list of trainings that are eligible below.  These professional paid caregivers will receive $25 per training, Maximum of $100 allowable.  Available until supplies last.
